- She has been practicing gymnastics since the age of 6
- Her first experience at an international event was in 2010 when she became a part of the Indian gymnastics contingent at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
- While representing Tripura in the 2011 National Games of India, Dipa Karmakar won gold medals in the all-around and all four events: floor, vault, balance beam, and uneven bars.
- After her 2014 Commonwealth Games stint, Dipa went on to finish fourth in the vault final at the 2014 Asian Games. The same year, she also won a bronze medal at the Asian Championships, held in Hiroshima.
- In October 2015, Karmakar became the first Indian gymnast to qualify for a final stage at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships held in Glasgow.
- In the latter half of 2017, she nursed a knee injury and had to undergo corrective surgery for her anterior cruciate ligament. She also had to miss the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
