She has been practicing gymnastics since the age of 6
Her first experience at an international event was in 2010 when she became a part of the Indian gymnastics contingent at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
While representing Tripura in the 2011 National Games of India, Dipa Karmakar won gold medals in the all-around and all four events: floor, vault, balance beam, and uneven bars.
After her 2014 Commonwealth Games stint, Dipa went on to finish fourth in the vault final at the 2014 Asian Games. The same year, she also won a bronze medal at the Asian Championships, held in Hiroshima.
In October 2015, Karmakar became the first Indian gymnast to qualify for a final stage at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships held in Glasgow.
In the latter half of 2017, she nursed a knee injury and had to undergo corrective surgery for her anterior cruciate ligament. She also had to miss the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
